What is Cable Railing?

What is Cable Railing? Cable railing, an alternative to a traditional wooden railing, offers practical and aestetic solutions. Learn more.

In recent years, cable railing systems have moved to the forefront as the railing of choice for many residential and commercial properties. This is largely due to the practical, safe, economical, and visually appealing solutions it offers.

The primary reason for cable railing’s success is simple. While the view from your deck or balcony may be breathtaking, cumbersome wooden uprights and horizontal members will always interfere with your line of sight. Cable railings offer the best alternative to traditional wooden railing systems. This is because they are an easy-to-implement option, thinner and far less obstructive, yet sturdy and secure, to allow your vistas to shine through.

Cable railing systems offer a cleaner, more open appearance to any interior space. These also serve as stairway and elevated walkway railing systems that provide substantial support with enhanced visibility.

What are Cable Railings Made Of?

Cable materials from Atlantis Rail Systems have a scientific design and formula to resist rust. This helps them maintain their like-new appearance even while exposed to extreme weather conditions. The protective outer layer is 316 Stainless Steel. This metallic compound contains Chromium, Nickel, Iron, and a Molybdenum Alloy for formability and extra corrosion resistance.

The thin and durable cable will maintain its clean stainless appearance for years and require no significant maintenance, unlike wooden and other non-stainless railing systems. Periodic cleaning is still advised especially near saltwater.

Horizontal Cable Railings

The most common application for cable railings is to stretch the stainless cables parallel to the floor. Wide, vision-inhibiting balusters can be replaced with stainless cable railing infill.

Configuration Options

You can install modern cable railings in various configurations to offer virtually unobstructed views. They also present a clean, uncluttered appearance, which adds a pleasing aesthetic to your architecture. A competent DIYer can even install these railing systems themselves.
